Dwayne McDuffie died yesterday.

His passing was sudden and from what I can gather, completely unexpected.  So much so, that when comics news site Comic Book Resources first broke the story, more than a few of us were convinced that they’d gotten something wrong.  But sadly, no.  And as the day went on, and more information came out about some of the whys and hows, it didn’t seem to make his passing any more believable.

A lot has been written about him in the past 12 or so hours, and surely, there’s a lot more to come.  So I’ll keep this short, and let better writers do better jobs of eulogizing.  But McDuffie — the man and the work — meant an awful lot to me, and our hearts go out to his family and friends.

Dwayne McDuffie, 1962-2011

On a lighter note, Action Agents… it’s a big day for internet celeb and my sometimes co-writer, Chris Sims.  Not that he really needs me to do promo work for him, but today sees the release of Image Comics’ Skullkickers #6, which features a 6-page story by Chris, as well as 3 other stories by some of comics finest, like Ray Fawkes (Apocalypstix), Brian Clevinger (Atomic Robo), and Adam Warren (Empowered).

If you’re a fan at all of what we do here at Monster Plus or over on our other comic Awesome Hosptial, then you don’t want to miss out it!

Also, if you’re in Columbia, SC, stop in at Heroes & Dragons this Saturday (02/26) between noon and 4 PM, where Chris will be signing copies and if you’re lucky, you’ll probably run into me too.
